The Act of Writing it Down

I love when I first crack open a new notebook. When it's a nice decorative one from Barnes and Noble even better, but really it doesn't matter what it looks like. Writing down thoughts, lists, ideas, whatever it may be keeps me focused. I go through notebooks so fast, which I know is wasteful. I would try to use every back and front page and try my hardest to write smaller, but it's hard for me. I write whatever way that comes naturally to me at the time. I'm about to run out of pages in my current notebook, so I will need to purchase a new one. They've been a real help when going through client photos these days.

I know most people have resorted to using computers or phones for keeping lists, but for me there's just something more helpful and concrete for me when I physically write it down. I would like to start keeping separate notebooks for all the things going on in my life such as one for daily reminders like groceries and then one for jotting down photo client details.

The more organized I am the better I feel, first I need a new notebook. Lately I've been finding cheap, cool ones in the bargain aisle at Barnes. I'll drop by there tomorrow.

Literature Surrounding

I feel at home in about all bookstores and libraries. I love the feeling of being surrounded by literature. Everyone is reading and are encapsulated in their preferred fantasy or nonfiction world. I worked at different Barnes & Noble stores starting my last year of high school through all my college years. I wasn't a huge fan of the corporate aspects that come along with working for a chain company, but I did love the atmosphere and the wonderful intellectuals I met over the years. I would take my breaks in the cafe or by reading on one of the comfy chairs. It was just a great environment that I still treasure to this day. I've started meeting my photo clients at Barnes and it's just so funny how life brings you back to those same familiar places.

Joy of a Mag

I am going to steal one from Jason this time and write about the joy of reading magazines. Mags rock the his'ouse. They've served as great creative tools in my past and present. I find clippings for collages, paintings, hair or fashion ideas. I also love to read mags. Some favs are Bust, Ready Made, Filmmaker, Entertainment, and Interview.

When I worked at Barnes and Noble one of the best perks was that when mags went out of date employees could take them home after the cover was torn off, for counting purposes. I would take every mag that I had any interest in. Man, if I still had that privilege I would snag all the food mags too, since I love to find new recipes now. I've considered getting a part-time job at a Barnes to receive those perks again and to be in the cozy and intellectual environment. So instead of getting them free I now have a few subscriptions to sustain the addiction.
