Snow

Even though I'm not the biggest fan of rolling around in it I have to say that snow is beautiful. When you wake up and look outside to see the ground covered in a beautiful white cover it's just so beautiful. Watching the snow flakes fall from the sky is so miraculous. It's one of natures true miracles. I'm glad to live somewhere that fully has all seasons. It wouldn't be Fall without the leaves changing color and it wouldn't be Winter without snow. It was great waking up this morning with snow covering the ground. This New Year's Eve is going to be memorable.

The Florida Temperature

The weather in Florida is incredible. It's around 70 degrees right now and it's Christmas Eve! I really do love it. When we have money I wouldn't be opposed to spending our Winters in Florida. I do love watching the seasons change in Baltimore, so I would like to stay there during the Spring, Fall, and Summer months, but Winter in Florida is where it's at. I'm not missing 20 degree temps and snow on the ground. I wish we could stay here for the next two months.

Yummy Fall Flavors Surround Me

I love the flavors of the fall season, especially pumpkin and eggnog flavors. I believe Jason already wrote about the pumpkin we somehow grew at our Stevenson address, well yesterday we put all the pumpkin pulp into a food processor and today we made our first batch of pumpkin bread. It's not going to be ready to try until tomorrow morning, but I can just imagine now how wonderful it's going to taste. We froze five or so more cups of the pumpkin pulp so we can continue to make pumpkin bread or pie throughout the winter season.

I love the new coffee drinks that Starbucks come out with for the season such as the Pumpkin Spice, Gingerbread, and Eggnog Lattes.

I bought spiced pumpkin creamer at the store today and I can't wait to drink some delicious flavored coffee at work tomorrow- YUMMY!! As I sit writing this now I can smell the bread baking downstairs and it's amazing smells are consuming me.

Fall Food

I love the food of Fall season. I just got finished putting my chili ingredients into the crock pot. I can't wait for the smells to consume the house. A couple weeks ago I made a kick ass pot roast. Then there's the soups I want to try out like butter nut squash and cabbage soup. The weather is perfect right now for this type of cooking, it's about 65 to 70 degrees these days. There's nothing better than cooking up delicious comfort food to fit the Fall season. Yummm!

Autumn, AKA Fall, AKA The Best Season Going

I wrote an entry back in March about the change of the seasons. About how nice it was to have the drastic shifts we do here on the East Coast because they always give you something to look forward to. I'll add to that by saying that the season I look forward to the most is Fall.

I love nearly everything about it. The shifting colors of the leaves. The perfect, temperate daytime temperatures and the slightly brisk evenings (and the resultant relief from hot summer days.) The coming promise of another holiday season. The perceived slowdown in the pace of life. The end to garden work, yard work, weeding and mowing. The start of the new television season. The ability to sit outside and read a book during the day on the weekend and not sweat or freeze your giblets off.

There's a lot to love, and I list it all in my upcoming best-seller, All the Things I Love, Why I Love Them, and Why You Should Care, chapter 276.

Still Night Air

I was thinking about this earlier today.  I'm sure many of you have had this experience.  You're outside on an average Spring or Fall day, sometime after the sun has gone down, when suddenly it hits you.  Something feels different...there's an emptiness which seems to completely envelope you.  A profound stillness, as if the air has ceased to exist; like you shouldn't be able to breath, but somehow still can.  It's an oddly beautiful sensation.  As if you're walking in a peaceful vacuum.  I've only experienced it a few times, which is part of the fascination.  It's randomness adds to its power.

Here's my theory.  On certain nights the ambient temperature closely matches the surface temperature of your skin, or at least that layer of air that's constantly being warmed by the heat your body sheds.  And the air is absolutely still.  Not even a slight breeze.  With no temperature differential, and no air motion, your nervous system has no cues to recognize that it's surrounded by anything.  And the dark of night adds a visual element to the sensation of emptiness.  Add to that a quiet rural or suburban setting, and your brain is tricked into sensing nothing.  I love that illusion.
